After having lived in Los Angeles for well over a decade, Sharon Osbourne has revealed that she and her husband Ozzy Osbourne are leaving Hollywood, with plans to move back to the UK because they are paying too much tax in California.
The pair finalized their decision as taxes have continued to increase during the pandemic, with celebrities reportedly being hit the hardest with their earnings — and if you thought the Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne were the only ones fleeing California due to high taxes, you’re mistaking.
The doting couple has joined the likes of Robbie Williams, Chris Hemsworth, Tina Turner, and Margot Robbie who have either already left or are in the process of moving away because the living costs in Los Angeles are on the rise and people aren’t willing to pay the staggering tax anymore.
Moving away from LA wouldn’t have been a hard decision for the parents of three, who own multiple properties back in the UK, with the former talk show host’s husband having amassed a whopping $200 million fortune throughout his successful music career.
Why Are Ozzy And Sharon Leaving LA?
The costs are ridiculously high, according to Sharon, who made the confession in an interview with The Mirror in March 2022.
“We are leaving LA. We are a bit sad. But the tax is getting too much. I am sad because I really really like staying and living there,” she expressed. “If they do the taxes better then I may come back. I do not know.”
The surging taxes that celebrities are paying just hasn’t sat well with the Osbournes, who would only be paying a fraction of the amount they paid in California once they return to the UK.
But moving back home could ultimately mean fewer job opportunities for Sharon, who has worked in SoCal for more than two decades before she decided to move to LA for good.
The 69-year-old has called Los Angeles her home for over a decade, having permanently relocated to Cali in 2010 when she was hired as one of the panelists on the CBS talk show The Talk.
Traveling back and forth from the UK while helming a full-time job as a talk show host made no sense for Sharon, who settled into her multi-million dollar LA mansion, which she shared with Ozzy, and the two have made endless memories there.
The Black Sabbath star then weighed in on the upcoming move back to the UK, telling the same publication, “I am taking my recording studio with me. I am going to build a barn there and make my own studio at Welders.
“I will still be making music and my band will come over.”
It’s believed that the US federal tax rate is said to have spiked to 28% while there is also an additional 13% tax in the state of California.
In other words, celebrities are paying plenty of money to upkeep their lavish lifestyle.
It should be noted that Ozzy’s kids, Kelly and Jack, also reside in Los Angeles, so it seemed convenient to have their children living in the same city as them.
Sharon and Ozzy are also parents to 38-year-old Aimee, who is believed to reside in London.
Why Was Sharon Fired From The Talk?
In March 2021, Sharon had defended her friend Piers Morgan after slamming Meghan Markle’s infamous interview with Oprah Winfrey, claiming a member of the Royal Family had made a racist remark about her and Prince Harry’s son, Archie.
Piers lashed out at the former Suits actress, saying that her accusations were ridiculous, adding that he didn’t believe a word that Meghan expressed during the tell-all chat with Oprah.
But her decision to defend Piers ultimately cost Sharon her job as viewers and her own co-hosts wondered whether her defense of the journalist made her a racist as well.
“I would really like to know, what would you say to people who say that, while you’re standing by your friend, it appears that you give validation or safe haven to something that he has uttered that is racist, even if you don’t agree?” her co-star Sheryl Underwood said.
The following month, it was announced by CBS that Sharon would not be returning to the show, with the latter later revealing that she was, indeed, fired.
In a statement from the network, it was said that "the events of the March 10 broadcast were upsetting to everyone involved, including the audience watching at home.
“As part of our review, we concluded that Sharon's behavior toward her co-hosts during the March 10 episode did not align with our values for a respectful workplace."
